Abstract: This paper introduces theoretical equations for the relationship between pore pressure increment and principal stress increment based on the concepts of the shear shrinkage coefficient and the modified volumetric compressibility under two kinds of axial symmetry stress conditions and a general three-directional stress condition. The pore pressure coefficients are then derived for these three conditions, and their corresponding relationships are analyzed.
