Abstract: The transmitting coefficient method for landslide stability analysis has an implicit and an explicit calculation equations for the solutions. It has some problems that need clarifications. The problems include the definition of safety coefficient, the types of the satisfactory statical equilibrium equations, the expression formulae of the safety coefficient calculation, the relationship between the coefficients of safety and the errors of safety coefficient calculation for the two solution approaches. In the paper, each of the problems is analyzed. On the basis of the above analyses, suggestions of solution approach selection for the transmitting coefficient method are presented.
