Abstract: In this paper the stability of clayey seabottom in the continental shelf area of South China Sea in the Pearl River Mouth and in the Xiangshan Bay of the East Sea are analyzed. The causes of the instabilities are revealed. Diagrams for estimation of the stability are given. Finally, the direction of further investigation is pointed out.
