STUDY ON THERMAL STABILITY FOR A NEW EMBANKMENT WITH OPEN COMPOSITE SLOPE PROTECTION IN WARM PERMAFROST REGIONS

    • Under the impact of climate warming and human engineering activities, the embankment with crushed rock slope protection needs the strengthening techniques in warm permafrost regions. Researchers have proposed a good strengthening technique, namely a new composite slope protections for the embankment. Considering the characteristic of air temperature and wind velocity difference between cold months and warm months, the heat transfer and thermal stability of the new embankment with open composite slope protections are studied and analyzed on the base of the non-Darcy flow using finite volume method. The results show that the boundary condition has distinct effect on the characteristic of heat transfer, and that the new embankment with open composite slope protections has better cooling effect and greater cooling rate than the new embankment with closed composite slope protections.
