CURRENT STATE AND PROGRESS OF THE STUDY ON THAWING SETTLEMENT OF FROZEN GROUND

Nowadays thaw settlement of frozen ground becomes a main reason for frozen soil diseases of destroyed constructions in frozen regions which makes researchers pay more attention and study further. This paper discusses the progress on thaw settlement of frozen soil for past fifties years from some aspects, such as, theory, tests in lab, numerical calculation, forecast etc. And summarizes many treatments of preventing thawing settlement, especially some treatments applied to Qinghai-Tibet railway. It also suggests researchers to study numerical calculation of thaw settlement more and unites theory, numerical calculation and engineering fields to promote the study of frozen soil thawing settlement.
