ANALYSIS ON THE CONSOLIDATION AND SUBSIDENCE OF SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL BUILT IN SOFT SOIL

    • Landfilling is the most important controlled method for municipal solid waste disposal, landfills is usually built in valleies or areas with stiff foundation soil. However, in beachfront ares, the landfills have to be constructed on soft soil. The consolidation and stability of foundation soil will then affect directly the safety and function of the landfill. However, either experience or research work is scarce on this question. On the hand, the ground water must protect from being polluted by poisonous water leaking from the landfill, on the other hand, fast consolidation is necessary to increase the strength and bearing capacity of soft soil, which bring forward new problem on foundation design and on ground treatment. Based on the research of one landfill, the consolidation and deformation of the soft ground were analyzed, which may be helpful to landfill designing on soft foundation.
